The Nutrition Services
Department at the hospital provides food for patients,
visitors, and staff. We prepare more than 127,000 wholesome
meals annually, many of which are interestingly prepared.
We also cater events held at the hospital.

The Maple View Café on the lower level of the
hospital not only serves meals to staff, patients and
their visitors, but is open to the public. The Café
features daily specials and heart-healthy meals. In
addition, Maple View Café offers a fresh salad
bar every weekday. The weekly menu will be posted here
to entice you.

The Café not only receives praise from patients
via our patient satisfaction surveys, but also from
the public - read the
article written by Becky Karush in recent Vermont
Observer.
The Café is open to the public for breakfast,
Monday through Friday, 6:30 - 9:15 am. Various egg dishes
are offered along with breakfast sausage and bacon.
Various bagels and breads are available in addition
to a selection of fresh low-fat and regular muffins.
The Maple View Café often offers the delicious
Vermont Morning (hot multi-grain) Cereal as a healthy
choice for breakfast.
The weekly menu features
the selections available to staff, visitors and the
public on weekdays for both lunch (11:15 am - 1:30 pm),
and for dinner (4:30 - 6:00 pm).
The Café is open daily from 6:30 am until 6:00
pm for snacks and beverages. Vending machines are accessible
all the time, including weekends, just outside the Maple
View Café. The machines feature soft drinks and
snack items including sandwiches and yogurt.
Nutrition Services provides special
meals and room service for patients in our Birthing
Center. In addition, Nutrition Services sponsors the
public Mediterranean Dinners for heart health right
in the Maple View Café.
Nutrition Counseling/Medical Nutrition Therapy
The BMH registered dietitian/nutritionist is available
to provide medical nutrition therapy to help prevent
or treat a wide variety of conditions including the
following:
- diabetes and gestational diabetes
- cardiovascular disease
- hypertension
- hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol/high triglycerides)
- gastrointestinal disorders (celiac prue, crohns,
irritable bowel syndrome)
- weight control
The BMH dietitian considers the patient's / client's
individual medical, social and lifestyle needs as well
as food preferences when developing a plan to achieve
both short and long term goals. Follow-up nutrition
counseling is available to provide support for permanent
lifestyle changes. Group programs are also available
for workplace education on topics including nutrition
and wellness, weight loss, and preventing heart disease.
Programs can be tailored to workplace needs, as desired.
